Yellowjackets tells the story of a high school girls' soccer team stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash. What begins as a fight for survival turns into a psychological descent, as the girls slowly shift from a unified team into a primal pack ruled by instinct, fear, and loyalty.
Our concept explores this transformation by visually comparing the girls to wild animals. We leaned into themes of instinct, memory, and survival, focusing on the tension between who they were and who they become.
The visual direction uses torn archival photos, raw textures, and field-journal inspired mark-making to mirror their unraveling. Blood stains, scratches, and fragmented compositions create a sense of history and violence while mixing traces of their past lives with the instinct-driven world they enter. The result feels raw, unsettling, and intimate, capturing the moment innocence disappears and animal instinct takes over.

Moodboards We began with several creative ideas and stylistic paths, all aiming toward the same purpose. By building and refining moodboards together, we aligned our vision, clarified what felt true to the story, and gradually shaped a strong, unified direction.
Directions We explored two visual directions for the show. The first leaned into a darker, grungy mood built with torn paper edges, cryptic text, and sharp flash cuts. It created a haunting connection between predators in the wild and the Yellowjackets, who are slowly shaped into a feral pack by the need to survive.
The second direction focused on a primal collage inspired by biology diagrams, torn journal pages, and fragmented memories. This approach revealed how the team gradually shifts from structured athletes to instinct-driven predators, showing a world where survival begins to overpower their sense of humanity.
Storyboards After finalising the concept and choosing the first direction, we moved forward with refining the storyboard. Through multiple iterations, we arrived at a version that focused on the most powerful quotes from the show and paired them with striking juxtapositions of animal behavior and key character moments. This approach strengthened the narrative and reinforced the connection between survival instinct and the unfolding emotional tension.
